Japanese Years

In Japan the years are counted according to the reign of the Emperors. Current Emperor is Akihito and his reign is called Heisei era, His posthumous name is likely to be Emperor Heisei. Before him reigned Hirohito for Showa era, Yoshihito for Taisho era, and Mutsuhito for Meiji era.

E.g. Heisei 20 means year 2008, Showa 60 means 1985 and Taisho 9 means year 1920. Sometimes shorten e.g. H18, S60 and T9.
